Dr. Darcie Moore has been selected to receive a 2019 Shaw Scientist Award. The award comes with $200,000 (spread across five years) in seed funding to support innovative research approaches and the career development of young investigators.
Working with a panel of leading researchers and scientists, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation developed the award to fulfill the wish of Dorothy Shaw, widow of prominent Milwaukee attorney James Shaw. Shaw left the bulk of her estate to the Foundation to support emerging scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee engaged in research. This award is given by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation to fund young scientists at a critical point in their careers to pursue unconventional opportunities in the fields of biochemistry, biological science, and cancer research. This allows scientists to pursue opportunities that may be promising but are considered too unconventional for traditional funding.
